NEBS Statement in regards to recent KCBS Modification

Published on 2/26/2020

Dear NEBS Members:

The NEBS BOD has reviewed the recent change that was presented by KCBS regarding the KCBS TOY Region Modification.  While we support KCBS as BBQ organization, we have communicated our position as it affects you, our members and organizers.

We have communicated that this change, as presented, could have a detrimental impact on many of the New England contests.  Our position as NEBS is to promote BBQ, the traditions, and we are often a stepping-stone for many teams as they prepare for the circle of KCBS. We asked that the “KCBS BOD hear the voices of their members, competitors and organizers while looking at a potential change in the newly announced modification”.

Our response from Emily Detwiler, KCBS was well received and she stated that they are evaluating the recently presented modification.  Emily also stated that they are reviewing all the feedback and will get back with an update quickly.

Although the decision is ultimately in the hands of KCBS, we wanted to assure you that we, as an organization, reviewed the many comments, emails and conversations to support the overall feeling that this would not be a positive move for New England (and Canadian) contests and competition teams.

As soon as we hear the final decision of KCBS, we will be sure to communicate to you where you can find the finalized information.
