The NEBS BOD has decided to open this event is open to all KIDS (dispite the use of "invitational" in the descriptions).
The best young pitmasters in the region have been called up for the ultimate showdown at the NEBS Invitational Championship: Kids Q Competition! It’s time for these premier young chefs to test their culinary skills against top-tier competition on the grandest stage.
Sanctioned by the Northeast Barbecue Society (NEBS), this exclusive invitational challenges our young cooks to showcase their innovation, precision, and flavor profiles under the championship lights!
THE CATEGORY: "ANYTHING WITH APPLES"
Our invitational youth cooks are taking on a sweet-and-savory challenge:

The Rules: Create a standout dish featuring any apple variety (Note: No Red Delicious allowed!). Any preparation style is on the table—baked, fried, caramelized, sauced, fresh, sweet, or savory.

Presentation: Submitted in a provided 9x9 container with OPEN GARNISH rules (creative skewers, wraps, stuffing, and decorations allowed!). Teams must submit 6 distinct, identifiable portions for the judges.
SITE & COOKING FREEDOM

Fuel Source Options: Complete flexibility! Wood, wood pellets, charcoal, propane, or electricity are all permitted.

Site Perks: 20’ x 20’ sites assigned on arrival with water, trash, ash disposal, restrooms, AND electricity available on site!

Inspection & Prep: Apples may be trimmed prior to arrival, but no flavorings, spices, or marinades can be added until on-site inspection is complete.

Safety First: Teams will have access to wash stations, fire safety gear, and strict temperature control standards for a smooth, safe contest.
JUDGING & INVITATIONAL HONORS
Entries will face rigorous double-blind judging across three standard criteria: Appearance, Taste, and Texture. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded based on total participation!
(Note: As an elite Invitational event, scores from this championship do not count toward annual TOY points—it’s all about taking home the Championship hardware!)
