KCBS to NEBS Certification Process
To obtain certification as a NEBS judge, a KCBS-certified judge must complete the following steps:
-
Pay the annual NEBS membership fee of $45.
-
Pay an additional one time $25 fee in lieu of attending a NEBS judging certification class (the standard class fee is $50).
-
Provide proof of KCBS certification by submitting a copy of their KCBS membership card.
All applications will be reviewed and approved by the Judging Committee.
Upon approval, the newly certified NEBS judge will receive a NEBS Certified Judge lapel pin and an official certificate. Certification will remain valid as long as the individual maintains an active NEBS membership. If membership lapses, the individual may reinstate their membership and continue their status as a NEBS certified judge.
Once certified, judges can be considered for the NEBS Judge of the Year award and may begin accumulating Judge Points toward the NEBS Seasoned Judge designation. Points may be earned through participation in NEBS-sanctioned events as a judge, table captain, volunteer, or as part of a cook team. Additional information regarding the NEBS Seasoned Judge program is available upon request.
This certification pathway is limited to BBQ judging credentials. At this time, only KCBS-certified BBQ judges are eligible.
